Royal Gems is a really flashy online slot game by software developer Game Art. For those familiar with this particular provider, this should mean: expect exceptional visuals. And that’s absolutely right – you can count on high quality graphics and a crisp clear view of all the jewels and riches. The backdrop is pretty interesting, too, and looks like a mosaic made of the finest little pebbles. They have a yellow hue from the glow of the reels towards the center, which blends into blue towards the edges. However, despite the seeming sophistication of this slot, it’s really quite simplistic. There’s a basic, generic soundtrack, so no fancy music to go along with the fancy symbols. That said, though, you can always mute it. And speaking of the symbols, some of them really do look very luxurious and feature royal crowns and diamond stars. But what’s more important is how you get those cold jewels to warm up to you and share some of their value.
First of all, the first thing you will notice when the game loads, apart from all the shining jewels, is the layout. There’s nothing remarkable about, as it’s pretty much consistent with the industry standard and features 5 reels and 3 rows. The number pf paylines might come across as a bit underwhelming, though. The total number of available paylines in this slot game is 10. With that said, you won’t have the opportunity to adjust or in any way regulate the paylines. Then again, the stakes here are more than reasonable. The only downside is that you won’t have much freedom to place larger bets. And this is fairly typical for Game Art slots. The minimum amount you will be able to wager on these reels is 10c per spin. As for the maximum, you can only bet up to $5 per single spin.As for the symbols here, unusually for this developer, they don’t include the lower value playing cards. Instead, the lowest paying symbols here are gemstones in different shapes and sizes. First in line are the round orange jewel and the heart-shaped pink gem. Following them is the blue tear-dropped gemstone and the green square jewel. Increasing in value, we have the golden lucky seven and a massive gold ring with the playing card suits on it. Finally, the most lucrative symbol on these reels is the large royal crown. It can award you payouts of up to 500 times your total stake! However, unlike how it is in many games, the crown symbol does not act as Wild. In fact, Royal Gems doesn’t boast a Wild symbol. So, there will be no substitutions to help you land better winning combos.
There is one symbol that we haven’t yet mentioned and that’s the game’s Scatter. It comes in the form of a dazzling diamond star – perhaps the most spectacular symbol on these reels. In terms of its value, though, it’s in the medium range, together with the golden seven and the large gold ring. However, unlike those two symbols or any other for that matter, it doesn’t need to land on an active payline. Furthermore, it doesn’t need to land in adjacent positions in order for you to pocket a prize either. All you need to do is look out for 3, 4 or 5 of these symbols appearing anywhere on the reels at the same time. This will be enough for you to score a win. However, that is about as far as the special abilities of the Scatter symbol go in Royal Gems. There are no other special features here. In other words, don’t count on any freespins, pick me games or other bonus rounds. The one feature that this game has that is a bit out of the ordinary and goes beyond the basics is the Gamble feature. It’s pretty much an unwritten rule to include a Gamble feature in nearly all Game Art slots. So, this one is hardly any different from the majority of others out there. You can choose to take advantage of it after any winning spin, if you think you can increase your prize. A simple side game of double or nothing will provide you with that opportunity. Guessing the correct color of the playing card will double your amount in size. And you can have up to 5 of these attempts, whereas each next one increases the amount of the previous. But a wrong guess will make you lose the prize.
